Mmetr--You are asking about SURFACE area. This post is about Volume.
TwoSmart4U--I think you also are barking up the "surface area tree, in which case, yes, both the top & bottom should be taken into account. But again, SURFACE AREA is not what this page discusses.
Nick9511 and Bluevioletscottage--I believe you are both close-but-not-quite because you are taking "pi" to a different number of decimal points than the example used. To be more helpful, the example should have specifically defined the value of pi. Also, for your test, make sure you & the teacher are on the same page as to what value to use for pi. Good luck!

When i tried to find the volume i got the wrong answer. It was close but not exact what should i do?

3.14 times 7(radius) squared times 12 (height)= 1846.32

When I was looking for how to find the height it gave the example and the answer was 1847.5.

Please help!!!

A can of vegetables is 5 inches high, and its base has a radius of
2 inches. How much paper is needed to make the label on the can?

I have removed all the Alternates from this that have specific dimensions, and I have restored credit to the person who originally posted the correct answer. Please don't mess this up with a careless Merge or any "modifications" other than perhaps a MINOR edit. If you have problems, ask a Supervisor. Thanks.
