What is the symbolic meaning of a butterfly tattoo?

Each butterfly is colored by their favorite color. and the reason i got butterflies was because my dad said that whenever i was born i looked like a butterfly. he said that because when I was in my mom`s tummy i looked ugly like a caterpillar (lol) but that when he saw me he didn`t expect to see something so beautiful, again...
