When should you take down your Christmas tree and decorations?

Tilly I believe you would be considered the dumb one with all of those grammatical errors. I would be ashamed to reply to any comment if I could not do any better than that. Laughing at you for having the nerve to refer to someone else as dumb.

A live tree should be taken down when the needles start falling - it can become a fire hazard. If it is an artificial tree, take it down before Easter.

We put it up Thanksgiving and it comes down right after Christmas night. We have a fake tree, so I really don't feel like it's a waste of money to take it down right away.

I think you should take it down about January 10, so that you can remember the memories and emotions of that Christmas Day.

Anytime you want to. We take ours down on January 7, the day after the Epiphany.

Traditionally you take it down on January 6, or else it is bad luck. Most people, however, take their tree down on New Year's Day if they haven't already done so.

Although it's usually a matter of opinion, it is in some cases a matter of local law or regulation. For example, my homeowners' association demands that all Christmas decorations be taken down by the end of January. (Personally, I take mine down on January 6.
After Christmas, just not on New Years Eve

This decorations up and down schedule works for me:

Weekend after Thanksgiving: Door wreath and other outdoor lights and porch decorations. This is when the neighbors do theirs and exterior decorations are a neighborhood thing.

From Thanksgiving until the Sunday before Christmas: Gradually add the Christmasy things around the house as time and inclination permits. Definitely put out the Nativity set with the wise men on a shelf or table across the room or in an adjoining room. They will gradually be moved closer to the rest of the set until January 6 when they "arrive."

Sunday before Christmas. This is the first time Our Lord's birth is mentioned in the Gospel reading, so that is a good time to put up the tree and any finishing touches to the house. I've switched to an artificial tree because even if I wait to buy my tree now, it's already losing needles.

Outdoor lights come down around January 1 (or are unlit until I get them down). Wreath stays up as long as it looks good.

Tree comes down on Theophany (Epiphany) January 6 or a day or two later. Other stuff a little at a time with everything down by February 2 (Presentation in the Temple).

This way the inside decorations which are basically for family and friends reflect the spiritual part of Christmas. The outdoor lighting is part of the secular celebration of love and good will and peace to all.

My grandmother always said "Never bring the old year into the New Year", therefore we always take our Christmas tree down by New Years day at the latest.

Tilly, That's just down right rude. For your information and this has nothing to do with when to take your Christmas tree down -

dum is spelt dumb.
atract is spelt attract.
nned is spelt need.
december should be a capital D.
Fanks is spelt thanks.

Please refrain from posting if a) you can't add anything useful to a discussion and / or b) you are going to be insulting to people who have a question that the would like an answer to.

Thank you.
