Why did Michael Jackson's skin color turn white?

He had a skin disorder called vertiliego. That is where your skin starts to turn pure white. Everytime he went on stage he would cover the white with black makeup. But soon there was more white then black and it would take more white makeup to cover up the black then white. So he HAD to get his skin bleached. IT WAS NOT HIS FAULT HE HAD A SKIN DISORDER! GUESS WHAT I HAVE VERTILIEGO! BUT HE SHOULD OF SHOWED THE WORLD HE HAD IT NOT HIDE FROM IT. IF I WAS FAMOUS I WOULD HELP FIND A CURE FOR VERTILIGO INSTEAD OF HIDING FROM IT. AND PEOPLE WOULD KNOW ME FOR THAT. I am cacasion (forgot how to spell it) and it still stands out it is as white as a blank piece of paper. So if i become famous i am going to show the world i have it not hide from it. He could of had help find a cure if he did not hide from it. It is all over my body. Some people call be a freak. But thats just me! I have it all over my arms, legs, hands, luckly not that much on my face! I HATE waring pants that shows your knees because its all over my knees. People tell me all the time "oh if i had it i would not care" but they just dont understand. but if i was famous everyone would know about it and would not think it was wierd. I would cry about what people say to me then i think. Only about 1.5% to 2% of the world population has it. but that might not be right because alot of people hide from it. Now i am just a little girl who had it since i was born. I am almost 12

I wonder why the 'improve answer' tab is missing from the information on Michael Jackson's skin issues. It sure would be nice if wiki would put it back so this info can be updated. The news from Jackson's dermatologist is very recent and very relevant. He had no choice but to whiten his skin as there is no treatment to put the pigment back. I am sure that if he was given a choice, he'd have had his nice dark skin back as opposed to being colorless.

I feel very sorry for this kind man who was so misunderstood and dogged by the press. Everyone wanted create a monster. All the good he did was not in the press..only the things they could twist into something nasty. What is it they say about nice guys??? Very sad. He didn't deserve the bs.

Jackson's dermatologist, Dr. Arnie Klein, told CNN that Jackson suffered from vitiligo, a disease that causes blotches of lightening skin, as well as a form of lupus that led to rashes and flaking of skin on his scalp.

"His was bad because he began to get a speckled look over his body," Klein said. "All over his body -- but on his face and hands, which is hard to treat." (Hence the glove where the vitiligo started, and the tape on his fingers afterward..)

Klein said he treated Jackson's vitiligo with a cream that eventually bleached Jackson's darker pigmentation to even out his skin color. He said it was that treatment -- not a once-rumored desire by Jackson to be white -- that lightened his skin over the years.

"Michael was black," Klein said. "He was very proud of his black heritage."
