- For the past 5 days, I have been eating only one meal a day but I do drink whatever I want.
- I make sure I drink V8 juice at least once or twice a day and drink plenty of other fluids including those with electrolytes.
- So far I have lost a couple of pounds but I am only doing this as sort of a cleansing and it is not something I would recommend staying on.
- When I do go back to eating more than one meal a day, I will do it gradually and not all at once so that my body will get used to it and not go crazy.

- I started to have one meal a day quite by accident. I had to have a routine blood test that required 12 hour fasting, and I didn't have time to go to the lab before heading to my office. I decided I'd be fine waiting to do the test after work, that I'd drink plenty of water - I couldn't even have coffee or tea because apparently that affects the blood panel. I was right. I had no problem (save for some rumbling) and in fact, noticed that I had plenty of energy all day, did my usual work-out (30 mins. on the elliptical upon rising) and 10,000 pedometer steps during the day without a drop in blood sugar.
- Anyway, with a goal of 10 pounds in mind, I decided to implement this program adding in only tea during the day with dinner at 6 pm. My dinner consists of 1000-1200 kcal of fruit, veggies, rice/grain, legumes, tofu/seitan etc. (I'm vegan). I lost 9 lbs in 4.5 weeks.
- I have no idea if this is unhealthy or healthy, but I do feel wonderful and am thrilled to have lost this weight that I'd otherwise been unable to shake. No willpower. I'm now adding in more calories in the form of nuts, avocado etc. and my weight is stable. Most interesting, my husband has 45 -50 lbs to lose and has been unable to stick with anything at all even though he has been hearing from his doctor FOR YEARS that he must lose weight. He's in the obese range. He scoffed when I started this "crazy" diet but has now been on it for 3 weeks and has lost 8 pounds. He loves the fact that I have become a crazed, gourmet vegan cook (if you think there could there be such a thing!!). Not eating has obviously caused me to turn my food obsession into a cooking obsession - but this is a fun hobby.
- Also, this has nothing to do with being a vegan. There are plenty of chubby vegans!!

- I cannot believe the first person to comment in this forum is not a gymnist. Anyone who gains 80 pounds over the winter is not an athlete but a voracious eating machine. I do not believe this person has a coach who would allow that and I don't believe they do balance work. I do believe they are in denial.

- Hi everybody,
- This topic made me so curious I tried it this weekend ( 9 and 10 th DEC). I don t have to lose weight ( 1M 72 - 58 kg), because all my life I m on a 1200 calorie diet. Mayor complaint about this diet : often feel frustred when I go to restaurant and take weight the following day!!! I hate this, even if I choose a rather light diner ( grilled fish and vegetables°
- I tried this weekend one meal - a super huge brunch ( 2 bananas - 100 gram salmon with 200 Gram rye bread and butter, 3 scrambled eggs with tomatoes and mushrooms, 50 gram dried fuits, 10 gram dark chocolate, 300 ml soya milk, an extra green salad ( with 2 spoons olive oil).
- No physical outlet and 1,5 liter water and in the afternoon an ice tea light.
- Results: - 1100 grams! and feeling fit psychical and very zenn in my head.
- Not that I will continue this one meal a day lifetime, but will definitly follow it during the coming holidays ( one big meal at the evening, so I will not feel frustrated at Christmas and New year and just can eat with the other
- family members) . Even so when I know I have social obligations as going to restaurant and family dinners. I will definitly eat the one meal a day to maintain my weight and avoid those extra gains the next morning.
- Anyway , for me it works and even not so hard to follow it for a few days, I was really suprised that I could so.Have rather a low blood sugar level , and didn't feel dizzy at one moment.
- Rather more easier for me because the snacks between the major meals, had rather a negative effect on me and made me feel more hungry than just not eating.
- To the people who are rather sceptic to this diet, better eating one correct meal a day to lose weight than following unrealistic diets like the protein diet ( very expensive and you deprivate yourself from social obligations), the banana diet, eggs diet,.... to lose weight. and so may other diets that are focused on eliminating other essential nutricients, with this diet I recommand to eat a very balanced one meal including all the food categories.
- I will continue this diet for the next coming days, and will let you the results.
- Livy

- One meal a day is bad for you, and it is most impossible to fullfill the daily requirements all in one meal, inless you want to get sick and barf it all up afterwards. I think the HA! I eat one meal a day lady is on something, because that is a complete fairy tale, not reality. And if she thinks she is all miss wonderful, just give it some more time she will be six feet under in no time. I doubt your doctor thinks your the healthiest person alive, he probably just wants some whether your actually attractive or not. First off if you have to exaggerate about yourself and give off major ego, then definitely you don't know what you are talking about. The brain needs more food than a cheap meal a day to function properly, maybe thats why you sound like a kook!
- Signed, someone intelligent who can eat whatever and not gain an oz.

- Will you lose weight on one meal a day? The scientific answer is; you might, or might not... Biologically, all you need for weight loss is a caloric deficit; that is, you need to eat less than you metabolise (burn). This is true for all living organisms, there are no exceptions on this planet. If that one meal is less calories than your diurnal (daily) metabolism, then you will lose weight. If that one meal is more than your diurnal metabolism, then you will gain weight. If they are equal, you will neither gain nor lose. Whether you eat once a day or 10 times a day, weight loss is dependent only on the caloric deficit. If there were an exception to this anywhere on this planet, then we could eliminate starvation, which is simply a prolonged, extreme caloric deficit. This is well understood in the diet, health, fitness and medical arenas. After this is understood, then we move on to what kind of weight are we losing, is fat body mass or lean body (muscle) mass. But that's for another discussion.

- I find that I lose weight so quickly when i eat only one meal a day. i can see a change in less than a week fitting into clothes(not on a scale). It is hard to get started but once you get use to it, you don't want more than one meal a day....in fact more feels worse. I am going to start this again tomorrow since i have been stuffing my face for a month. I know it works so i know i will lose in no time. cheers:)

The food that I do eat, when its time 6:00 pm taste so much better. Before I was eating pointlessly, never being full. Now I eat once a day and the food is so good. I will be doing this for a long time, I actually KNOW what its like to feel hungry. Something that I didnt know because I had been stuffing my face with bs.

- Hello Everyone
- I've been eating one meal a day over three weeks now , and I have lost five pounds . I went from 140 to 135 , and I feel great!!! I drink alot of water , and from time to time green tea( it really takes your hunger away). I run for 40 minutes every day and with just one meal a day, I feel sooooo healthy!!! It takes alot of patience and strengh for the first two weeks , just to get your own organism use to this type of eating, but it is really worth it . When I felt really hungry I would go for a walk( or run)and drink alot of water , or if you have time, just take a nap. After a while you just get use to it. So don't give up !!! Keep it up ,best wishes.

- I have gained 15 lbs over the winter and I am not happy about it. I used to eat only one meal a day and I felt great. Over the winter and after my hysterctomy I started gaining weight so I started trying the special K diet and other diets that say eat 5 small meals a day. Well the weight never went away and I just gained more. Well I am done with that and I am going to go back to eating the one meal a day and see if I can lose this extra weight. I dont feel good about myself with this extra 15 lbs and it needs to come off. I will keep posted weekly on how I am doing. I am glad that I found this site. It just conforms what I have always thought that eating only one meal a day is the healthy way. After checking out this web page I am convinced that eating only one meal a day is a very healthy way to go about life. Good luck to everyone.
