What major religions believe in the concept of purgatory?
Purgatory has many iterations across religions. Most prominent is the Christian purgatory, but Judaism and Islam also has their own concept of purgatory.

One does not have to be physically dead to be in Heaven - near to God, or Hell - distant from God.
