No, I have had my male betta fish for 3 years, and not once has he gone into hibernation. Good Luck!
My Beta has been inactive and not feeding for at least a week. He lies at the bottom of the bowl, nearly sideways, apparently sleeping. I haven't tried heating the water yet.
Here are two sites answering that question. Both agree that water temperature may be the issue.

No, Betta fish do not sleep because they can not lie down or else their fins stop working and they die.
In colder waters, a betta's metabolism will slow down and the fish will not move or eat as much.
Usually no fish hibernate!
Im not really sure but dont worry it will eventulay. Just dont keep light on it at night.
Yes.I bought a plant for my fish and he sleeps rigt on the bottom of it he's still as a rock by the way he's not dead.
Yes beta fish go to sleep the stay somewhere and they dont move dont go tapping on the glass he/she is asleep let them sleep like you need ur sleep they do to.
Betta fish to not hibernate. If you fish is acting lethargic, make sure that the water is not too cold (78 to 80F is best), and that the water is clean.
other Betta fish and the bigger fish.
Betta fish do not eat fish.
No betta fish are carnivores.
Well, if you love your Betta fish, then it should live by itself. But if you add another Betta to your current Betta fish's tank, then they will start a fight because Betta Fish are Siamese fighting fish and if one Betta is in contact of another Betta, the possible reason would be a fight between them two.
A betta is a fish of the species Betta, especially Betta splendens, commonly known as the Siamese fighting fish.
