There are panthers living in Tennessee. There have been numerous reports throughout the state, especially in the far east mountainous region and on the plateau around crossville and cookeville. There have also been sightings near the Chattanooga area and the far west area of Tennessee. However, it is not confirmed that there are panthers in Tennessee because "officials" have not spotted one.

If there are big cats in the wild there, they would be either escapes, or pumas, which may still be found in some areas.

Black Panther sightings are not unknown from many places, especially in the southeastern US. However, the only big cats that have all black specimens are the leopard and jaguar, and neither is found here ( some jaguars wander in from time to time in southwestern states, but none are black). The puma or mountain lion was once found in the region, but exists in the east only in Florida. These cats are never black. Maybe escaped exotic pets can account for the sightings, but no black cats are native here.

actually, it is said that there ARE panthers in Tennessee, but the wildlife people wont admit it because they don't want to alarm the public. my friend owns a bunch of land in southern Tennessee, like 300 something acres that's never been hunted on. and he was curious and set up a motion camera in the woods and when he got them developed there were pictures of some kind of HUGE cat. an we believe it was a panther

Officially, there are no black panthers (jaguars or leopards) in Tennessee, or any other state.

The Mississippi's wild life fisheries and parks says they do not but there has been very many reports of screams and sightings of panthers/cougars/mountain lions {puma concolor}which is the same animal. The answer is there is a good chance they do but no hard evidence.

okay I'm 17 and I live in McNairy county TN and I heard the stories never believed them But a few mounths ago I took my girlfriend and her little brother coon hunting. And out of nowhere we hear sreaming and my girlfriends little brother took off to the house and my girlfriend called 911 I told her to stay here and I went ahead to see what the sreams where about and why someone is on my land when about 25 yards out there I see these glowing eye and I took 2 shots one hit and the other missed and my girlfriend came running to see why I fired my shotgun then she seen it running off but then the cops where at the house then the next day the game warden came and he took pictures of foot prents and said it was a panther. Still idk what we saw today but it wasnt no bobcat or mountain loin but I still don't like going out there alone. So I say yes

Reports of big black cats do come in from many areas, but there are no native black cats in North America. Usually, these are cases of mistaken identity.

There have been reported sightings in Kentucky, Kansas, and eastern Nebraska, however there have been no photographs taken, and there is speculation that such sightings have been mistaken species identification.

Black panthers in the Americas are melanistic jaguars and jaguars are only found in the extreme southwest of the United States. However, people will frequently use the term "panther" to describe the mountain lion but this is incorrect because they are not from the genus panthera.
