No human being has a horn, which includes Mormons.

I'm fairly certain this comes from an encounter between on of the early General Authorities, a man called J. Golden Kimball and the KKK shortly after the Civil War.

First a little background. Uncle Golden (as he is often refered to) was originally a mule driver and had more rough edges than your average General Authority. He swore alot and had difficulties when the Word of Wisdom became a rule rather than a suggestion.

Anyhow, he was in charge of the Southern States region of the Church's missionary effort and they were having a midnight baptism (to avoid problems with the KKK), as they were wrapping up the baptism they heard the KKK coming down and setting up to tar and feather them once they got done. Uncle Golden told the missionaries to get out of there and he was going to try and reason with them. I guess he figured there was no reason to get more than one person killed.

As he got closer to the bank he heard them talking to themselves and one of the mentioned that it looked like the skinny Mormon in the river had horns (Uncle Golden was wearing his cowboy hat, and it was dark). So Uncle Golden yelled out, "You bet we've got horns and we'll gore the hell out of you if you try to come across!"

Lucky for him his missionaries had decided to come back and were lined up along the bank. The mob decided it wasn't worth getting gutted if they happened to be wrong so they just kinda milled around for a bit and went home.

Saved Uncle Golden (a plus), but the myth has hung around since then (a minus), so in my book it about evens out.

What are Mormon horns?

A silly rumor that Mormons have horns has been traveling around the Southern and Eastern United States for over 100 years now. Legend has it that this rumor was started by a missionary named J. Golden Kimball, who was a missionary in the South at the height of the KKK. The missionaries had to hold meetings in the forest at night to avoid persecution. Anyway, at one of these meetings the KKK showed up planning on tarring and feathering the Mormons. J. Golden apparently scared them away by yelling out "We Mormons have horns and we're going to gore the hell out of you if you get any closer." Well, the mob ran off but now we're still stuck with people thinking Mormons have horns. I don't understand how anyone could believe something so silly! :) So, in short, Mormons don't have horns (obviously... they're just people) but that's what "Mormon Horns" are.

Are Mormons demons?

No. Mormons are people that are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They are not demons and do not have horns. You can learn more about the church and it's members by visiting their website or attending a worship service. Links are provided under "Related Links" below.

The "Related Link" below has a great population statistics map related to Mormon Church membership.

Did the KKK ever target Mormons you have seen many different answers so you have no Idea?

Yes, the KKK did target Mormons in the Southern United States. There are several events described in various journals and newspapers. It is thought that the KKK started the rumor that Mormons have horns (due to Elder J. Golden Kimball telling them so in an attempt to scare them) and contributed to the rumor that Mormonism is very secretive (because meetings and services were often held secretly at night to avoid harrassment).

Why do people think Mormon's have horns?

This is a rumor that started a long time ago, probably over 100 years ago, in the southern United States. Latter-day Saint missionaries sent to the south were treated terribly and were run out of town by mobs or by the KKK. In order to justify their actions and convince the people in their towns that the Mormons were their enemy, lies and rumors, such as Mormons having horns, were spread. Other rumors included, such as that they kidnapped teenage girls and sacrificed them on temple altars or forced them into polygamy and slavery. Obviously, these rumors are and were all untrue. Mormon missionaries simply wanted to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the few who did join the Church because of their work did not grow horns and were not forced into polygamy or slavery.

Why are all Mormons liars and yet not all liars are Mormons?

This question is based on an incorrect supposition. Not all Mormons are liars; most Mormons are not liars.
