Do Mormons believe in apostasy?

Answer:
Yes. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believes in apostasy, or the concept of 'falling away' from true doctrine. They believe that shortly after the death of the Apostles, the Christian world fell into a state of apostasy. This caused the need for the true Christian Church to be restored to the earth - which they believe was accomplished in the founding of their Church in 1830 through Joseph Smith, Jr.
Mormons also believe in the apostasy of individuals. Those who leave the Church over disagreements with doctrine are considered apostates.
