No, most bullets however do break the sound barrier, at roughly 1100 fps is the speed of sound. Some of the smaller pistal rounds like the 9mm go about 900 fps to about 1050 fps. So there you have it not all bullets break the sound barrier.

Can a Bullet break the sound barrier?

Yes, easily. That is why most bullets make that characteristic "crack" as they're fired. That's the sound barrier being broken. Ever heard a whip being cracked before? It sounds exactly like a gunshot for the reason that it's the same thing happening. That is why so called "silencers" sound nothing like they do in the movies. They are not that "silent" at all because you cannot get rid of the sonic boom. However, some ammo is subsonic, meaning it is designed to go slower than the speed of sound. Subsonic ammo/rounds do not make the distinctive "whipcrack" sound as far as I know.

What bullets travel faster than the speed of sound?

Almost all of them. The question is, what bullets travel SLOWER than the speed of sound? They're called "subsonic" bullets, and special operations units buy them for their silenced guns.

First invention to break sound barrier?

Craig Breedlove became the 1st person to break the sound barrier in an automobile in 1998. At Lake Bonneville, Utah, he achieved a trap speed of over 760 MPH. Unable to improve, it's completely wrong. 15/10/1997 Thrust SSC, LSR av speed 763 MPH. Breedloves speed was unconfirmed and even if reported correctly here is 2 MPH slower. This all happened at Black Rock Desert in Nevada. Bonneville has taken a back seat to the new speed site in Nevada.

How fast does an object have to go to break the sound barrier?

To break the sound barrier you have to travel than the speed of sound. The speed of sound in air actually varies with temperature. When representing air as an ideal gas the speed of sound can be represented as c = square root(γRT) where γ = specific heat ratio = 1.4 R = specific gas constant = 287 T = Temperature in Kelvin. Using this equation the speed of sound in dry air at: -100 degrees Celsius is 264 metres per second 0 degrees Celsius is 343 metres per second 100 degrees Celsius is 287 metres per second.

How do you get Hercules to break the barrier for you on mythology island?

Why does light not break the sound barrier?

The sound barrier is formed by pressure waves building up on each other. Imagine a singer. If you have a second singer sing with them it sounds louder. Add more singers and the loudness goes up. This is because the sound waves are constructively interfering with each other or building up. The same happens with the sound barrier. The pressure wave built up has a very high intensity but, because all of the sound waves occupy the same space, the wave creates a very short, but loud "Boom."

Do bullets pop when passing over head?

No, they whistle. The pop heard when firing a rifle is partly the sound of gas exiting the barrel after the bullet is out and partly the crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier. This happens close to the muzzle, so unless you were sitting at the feet of person firing, the pop would not be anywhere near over your head. You are more likely to hear a whistle than a pop, if anything at all.

Does a sonic boom occur at the moment when an aircraft exceeds the speed of sound?

yes. a sonic boom occurs when the aircraft breaks the sound barrier and all the time it is going faster than the speed of sound.

Who would win flash vs quick silver?

I'll pick Flash. Both are basically the same. Accept its proven that Flash is faster. Flash is as fast as the speed light. Where as Quicksilver is as fast as the speed of sound. Guns can fire bullets at the speed of sound. Flash dodges bullets all the time. If you faster than bullets your faster than Quick silver. FLASH WINS!Besides flash is just cooler.

Does bullet emit sound while traveling?
