If both were orthodontists, then it's your decision. If neither of them were, get an opinion from an orthodontist. Both are right, it just depends on their technique and opinion. Either way you will get the end result desired. In my opinion, getting them on now will save time in the braces for the child. But that is just an opinion. It is really up to you. Go with whatever and whichever dentist makes you and your child more comfortable, either way the teeth will end up straight.

No. Actually there are some people with large teeth that crowd the others out so some teeth may be pulled and braces put on to push the other teeth together so there will be no gaps. The best thing to do is see your dentist and go over a plan as to how to straighten out your teeth. Dentistry has come a long way. Marcy Yes, you should wait because they will have to be re-aligned anyway when the rest come in. But I could be wrong, that is what the dentist told my friend's son. You should consult your dentist for the best opinion. To the other poster just for your information and I hope it helps. My Goddaughter was 14 when she had teeth removed because she had large teeth and they were crowding each other. Then her braces were put on (the kick now is, different colored braces the kids just seem to love.) Her teeth are coming along just great. I do agree if the child is younger they should possibly wait. Marcy

yes, you need to have lost all your baby teeth and have your adult teeth in. Because the role of braces is to have straight teeth for life --- which would be your new grown in teeth. you wouldn't want braces on baby teeth that would just eventually come out.. that would be a waste ;)

Only some teeth that will screw with the braces and need to be taken out. Putting the braces on is 100% PAINLESS. You will feel your teeth getting sore for about a week or two after, though.

No, you do not need to lose all of your baby teeth, only the ones that your dentist or orthodontist tells you which ones you have to lose first.

Will a 13-year-old girl need braces in order for her permanent teeth to come in?

You can't get braces on baby teeth. The girl would have to have her permanent teeth first (and should, by the age of 13). Needing braces is a matter of genetics and heredity. Some people have perfectly straight teeth naturally. Others (like me!) have needed braces. ~ T

Sometimes. My mouth was too small and I had 4 extra teeth the oral surgeon pulled out.

What are the ill effects of extracting teeth as an necessary step to wear braces?

So many dentists remove lots of teeth to make the mouth conform to the desired shape. If your dentist/orthodontist recommends this, get a second opinion. There is no reason not to wait until the permanent teeth come in before getting braces. Or, consider an appliance for early intervention.

How long does the wisdom teeth heal before getting braces?

The bottom answer is not totally correct. You must wait at least a few weeks, preferably 3 months, before getting braces in order to let the gums and the bone heal properly before putting on braces. They can never get braces because they will irritate the damaged gums.

Can you get braces having wisdom teeth?

AnswerIn most cases, there should be no problem in having your wisdom teeth extracted while you are still wearing braces. This is usually done when there is an infection on the wisdom tooth, or when the extraction is indicated to help with the orthodontic treatment.AnswerAfter having had braces, for four years, the orthodontist told me which teeth had to be extracted PRIOR to the braces being put on. The extraction sites had to then heal, before the braces could be applied. Working around braces is so difficult, that normal dental cleanings and flossing can NOT be done.

Do you have to be 11 to have braces if you've got buck teeth?

My friend has had buck teeth all her life, and has tried everything there is, except braces. Now that she's 11, she is getting braces. So yes, i think you have to be 11 to get braces if you have buck teeth.
