Actually, it's variable. Only some types of antibiotics will affect birth control pills. Rifampin is the one you'd need to worry about. That's not saying that there aren't any others out there, but not all of them affect it.
Antibiotics such as rifampin affect the way the liver handles synthetic hormones such as estrogen, making them more difficult to enter your system. This is what makes birth control less effective when on these types of antibiotics.

Though not all antibiotics affect birth control pills, it's always best to have a back up plan when on the two of them at the same time.
