In theory yes but when a reaction is slowed it is usually called an inhibitor. Catalysts speed up the rate of reaction usually.

Yes, usually, but in Rosenmund's reaction they actually use a poisoned catalyst to slow the rate down slightly.

What it will change adding a catalyst to a chemical reaction?

It will increase or decrease the speed of the chemical reaction.

What will change when a catalyst is added to a chemical reaction?

A catalyst speeds up the rate of reaction, and lower the activation energy needed.

Why does a catalyst speed up the rate of reaction?

The use of a catalyst increases the chance of particles meeting. This causes there to be a decrease in activation energy, and results in an increase in rate of reaction.

What happens to the speed of a chemical reaction when a catalyst is present?

The speed of a chemical reaction may increase or decrease by the addition of a catalyst. In the synthesis of ammonia by Haber's process , Fe + Mo mixture acts as a catalyst which increases the formation of ammonia, here Fe + Mo mixture is positive catalyst(increases the speed of the reaction). The oxidation of chloroform (CHCl3) by air in presence of sunlight is retorted by the edition of 1% ethyl alcohol in to it. Here alcohol acts as a negative catalyst (decreases the speed of the reaction)to the oxidation of chloroform .

Why do different metals react in different way and with different speed?

The way of reaction depends on its type, and the metal. As for the speed, there are different ways to increase or decrease reaction rate(temperature, catalyst.)

What is the difference between positive catalyst and negative catalyst?

The substances which increase the rate of a chemical reaction are called a Positive Catalyst whereas The substances which decrease the rate of a chemical reaction are called Negative Catalyst. Positive Catalyst decreases the Activation energy of reactant molecules whereas negative catalyst increases the Activation energy of the reactant molecules. Positive Catalyst is also called the Promoter whereas negative catalyst is also called Inhibitor.

Why can a catalyst speed up a reaction even at low temperature?

Because catalyst will reduce the activation energy of the reaction, thereby the speed of the reaction increases.

How does a catalyst affect the speed of a reaction?

A catalyst enables more particles to reach the activation energy and to take part in the reaction. Therefore the speed of the reaction increases.

What is the purpose of phosphoric acid in the synthesis of aspirin?

to serve as a catalyst and speed up the reaction

Is catalyst a product of chemical reaction?

No a catalyst is unchanged by a chemical reaction, it does however serve to speed up the rate of the reaction.

Which component is affected when a catalyst is added to a chemical reaction?

The component affected when a catalyst is added to a chemical reaction is the reactants. The purpose of a catalyst is to speed up a reaction.
