Do cats have menses?

Answer:

Answer

Female cats do not have what you normally think of as menses. They do however emit hormone levels at certain times. This odor attracts the tom cat and she is receptive to mating. The cat has this cycle several times a year, lasting 4-6 days, depending on your climate and daylight. Warmer places have more cycles. The urine is stronger smelling and attracts male tom during this time. In colder climates cats mate during the late winter and early spring. That way the kittens are born when weather is good. In my area, the midwest, kittens are usually seen around Easter and then again in summer. I have never seen any during bad weather. Mother nature is in charge. Helen
