Yes a pet raccoon can contract rabies, but only if it has not been vaccinated against the virus, and comes in contact with another animal that is carrying the virus. Raccoons and other rabies vector species are not just born with rabies, they must be infected by another animals, the same as a regular dog or cat. So keep your pet raccoon vaccinated and contained safely and you will have no problems with rabies!

∙ 12y agoNo. They actually don't carry any diseases. That is a myth. It has been tested and proven that teens that get a monkey (squirrel monkey or spider monkey in paticular) make more money and get better jobs and improve in school. The earlier in life they get their own the better the improvement. Not my words but my neighbor is a scientist and studies monkeys and he has 3 or 4 and has convinced me to get a couple of my own. I make like 25,000 dollars a year from selling the babies! The babies are a little more work so be careful when breeding.
