Nope. Birds, unlike most mammals, can fly, and therefore simply migrate away from bad weather, like winter. Rather than trying to find a suitable place to stay for months, and putting on enough fat to survive that long, they head south for much more moderate climes.

Consider as well, that most birds that do stay in unfavorable areas during winter often burn off ALL their fat during the night. A chickadee will have to eat all day just to survive one night. As they are now, there is no conceivable way for them to survive an entire season hibernating.

Chipmunks are storing food for the winter and sleep but, during the winter they will have to wake up to eat as they cant last long without food. Chipmunks sleep in the coldest part of winter but are not hibernating like other animals.

No. Birds do not hibernate. Chaffinches in very cold areas migrate to warmer areas.
