Yes, it is scientifically proven that dogs dream. All mammals dream. It is a mysterious process as to WHY mammals dream, but we do actually know what they probably dream of. Many experiments have been done that link a rat's daily activities with the brain waves and motions of their dreams. Dreams tend to revolve around searching for food and fleeing from predators. It might have something to do with the brain's need to do maintenance during downtime, rather like when you run a program on your computer that cleans up unused files and maximizes the efficiency of your hardware. It could also be a different kind of wakefulness, where the mnemonic brain creates exchanges with the more primitive brain for a kind of "training session." Nobody really knows. Well, good question. the world may never know, I bet all animals do.
Scientists learned that by observing their Rapid Eye Movement (REM), which also occurs in humans when they dream.
You should not to disturb a dog or any other animal or human during REM sleep. It disrupts the resetting of the brain that is done during that period of rest. It can look a bit upsetting, but just leave them be and they will be fine.
* The dog's leg twitching- running in dream * Whining - scared in dream * Barking - curious of something in dream * Chewing - eating in dream * Howling - mad at something or howling at moon in dream
Our eyes contain Rod cells and Cone cells. The Cone cells enables us to see colors. Dog's eyes only consist of Rod cells, which differentiate in varying shades of grey, black, and white.

Dogs dream about anything, just like humans. Often I will catch my dog running or barking in his sleep.

Evereyone dreams, even dogs! Dogs have feelings too. I once was holding a puppy and it fell asleep and had a bad dream. (It was squirming and yelping in its sleep.)
The little dogs in the dream symbolize something that feels as if it is taking over the dreamer's life. But the actual meaning depends on how the dreamer feels about little dogs: are they adorable? messy? revolting? terrifying? cuddly? Are these dogs welcome in the house, or does it feel like an invasion? Those feelings express the dreamer's emotions about whatever the little dogs represent in real life.
your mad at your feet
Most people believe dogs dream when they sleep because they appear to be running. It is almost impossible to tell what a dog is dreaming unless it doing an act like running or barking. or...they aren't because I've never really paid much attention to what dogs do when they sleep. just another opinion.
Dogs do not dream about bananas. They all dream they are back to their primordial wolf pack origins. They imagine they all have wolf heads and run down Elk, Antelope, and even Moose. Oddly, they dream of having a wolf head which is not a stretch for a German shepard but looks funny on a Chihuahua or Weiner Dog.
Unfortunately, no one knows...
