No, they don't recognise themselves in mirrors, but when they do happen to see into a mirror they will usually bark, because they don't know that the dog in the mirror is them. they just think that it is another dog, so they bark at it or ignore it.
It is quite unccommon for a dog to see in a mirror though. i once picked up my dog and turned his face towards the mirror and he just looked for a second and then turned away and acted normal.

To answer 3, that is not sufficient information to say that they recognize themselves in the mirror. For all you know they could be interpreting it as another dog.
Dogs do look in mirrors, but they do not understand that the animal looking back at them is themselves. Humans and apes are the only animals that have self recognition capabilities. So when a dog looks in a mirror they see another dog, which is why a lot of dogs tend to bark at their reflections.
Yes, but they don't recognize the image as themself, just as a dog. They can see themselves, but often times they can't tell it's themselves.
My dogs barks at himself or scratches at the floor lenght mirrors in ny room.
They do not hate mirrors. They think that a rival dog is standing in front of them, and want to protect their territory.
They will if they catch it's cent.

No, dogs can't recognize themselves in a mirror.
No, you see a mirror image of yourself - one that is reversed. For example, if you have writing on your shirt, it will appear backwards in the mirror. Others see you non-reversed.
the theme is that sylvia plath is trying to say that in life you can see your self when looking at a mirror
