Do people still read the Bible And why?

Answer:
Yes, there are more people reading the Bible today than at any other modern time. The people are seeking that comfort that the scriptures can give them in these troubled times. Help and advice is needed where broken families are concerned. Many people today have more personal problems then ever before, so they turn to the only real advice that they know can help them, the scriptures. It can be their help and their salvation.

you should try reading it sometime . it's very comforting and applys to us now it isn't some dusty old book.... maybe you should study it with someone

The Bible is still the most read book in the world - more copies of the Bible have been produced than any other book in history - by far. People read it for all sorts of reasons. For a start, many of the Old testament stories are gripping - as intense as any thriller! Some are moving, and others just inspiring. Many read it as they believe they learn much about God in its pages; it helps them in their faith, comforts them in trouble, and encourages them when times are easier. For others they love to hear the stories of Jesus (in the new testament) over and over as they have decided to pin their lives to him and want to learn all about him. As the contributer said above, the really best way to answer this question is to read it for yourself.

The best way of studying or reading the Bible is to start with something easy to understand. I suggest the story of Jesus as written in Luke's gospel as it starts with the familiar Christmas story which everyone knows, and then goes on to describe Jesus' ministry, his death and resurrection. In addition, there are many 'parables' - stories Jesus used to teach others - in Luke, many of which might be familiar to you. After Luke, you might try Matthew's account of Jesus (the book where the 3 wise men appear!). Then, perhaps, read one of Paul's letters to the churches - like the letter to the Galatians or one of the letters to the Corinthians.

Use a translation that is in modern English to start with so that you are not distracted by long or old-fashioned words. The Good News version or the New International version or even the ultra-modern 'The Message' are good places to start. The latter two can be read free on Biblegateway.com. When you've come to grips with these you can compare these translations with other, older translations like the New Revised Standard Version (said to be one of the best) or the King James version (the one preferred by many Americans, although it is difficult to understand because of its archaic, but beautiful language). Finally, a good way to study is to use Bible notes that can be downloaded or are available in most Christian bookshops - and even better is to find a church offering a Bible Study group. Once you get into the Bible you will realise that the more you read it the more you want to read it!
