This has become a fairly standard practice amongst performers as their required stage movements require a fair amount of physical exertion and exercise. Singing requires lots of diaphramatic support (stomach muscles) which would be difficult, at best, to control while doing somersaults, etc. The music is recorded ahead of time, and the singer then lipsyncs ... some are pretty successful at this, others are not - and when someone does it badly, it is really really evident.
