How often does a dog need to defecate daily?

Actually your pup/puppies can be having bowel movements and you may never see them until ( 2 - 3 weeks ? ) which may cause you to ask do they have bowel movements. ( thinking drinking mom's milk only maybe ony urine ) After concerns of my own I went to vets, spent $$ to learn: what happens is the mother licks that area and in doing so stimulates the pups to do the # 2. ( 1st must add, it's 100% natural for all mother dogs ( b word I hate ) And then the mother will clean up the mess,

hence taking it back into them. Where it was originally made by the mother it is harmless to her/does her no harm ( yes sounds gross, but it's what all mother dogs do ) As I said, I got concern after not seeing a bowel movement for over 2 weeks. Only thing that eased my mind was, if they haven't been doing #2, after 2 weeks they would be dead. but there not. (plus they grown in size and weight ) But still, why Haven't I seen a bowel movement. I learned the answer. And in taking the pups temp rectally, the brown stuff on the instrument, confirmed, all was well in that department. It's not a stupid question. The same question that brought me to this page, asking: when do pups have a bowel movement?. If it was explained like this, I would have saved $40 cab fare, $45 vet bill. plus 2 hours of my time.

I'm sure it depends on the amount of food the dog eats, exercise, and size of the dog. My dog is very "regular" in every way - she has 3-4 1 hour walks daily, with 2 cups of dry kibble each day, and some treats. She defacates twice a day and pees three times. She weighs about 45lbs.

A dog usually does have a bowel movement every day. Like human beings, dogs can have problems with their digestion which can change the frequency of their bowel movements.
