Shock collars are NEVER the way to train a dog, especially a puppy. Puppies are very sensitive to the world as it is; add an electric shock every time they perform a certain task and you will have, not a trained dog, but a dog that is insecure and, therefore, more likely to act aggressive. Shock collars are part of what is called negative reinforcement training, where something bad happens to the dog if they do not do what you want. Negative reinforcement teaches your dog to do what you want because they fear you. Positive reinforcement teaches your dog to do what you want because they get something good and they want to please you. Positive reinforcement is always the way to go with training. You and your dog will be much happier.

∙ 13y agoIf you want to stop you dog from digging you should walk it more because it is getting bored and resulting to digging for entertainment, i would not suggest a shock collar any way because it is really cruel, imagine if you were really bored and decided to entertain yourself and then got a massive electric shock. It you can't walk it m,ore i suggest you growl at it and give it treats if it dose not dig.
aww but if you do try to not do it often and if the dog really is bored then go out and do stuff with it play fetch or pet it.then it really is a good idea to give it a treat if its good.

∙ 11y agoLet me first start by saying that "shock collars" have come a long way with the advancements of technology and actually have no electricity in them. Thus, they do not "shock" the dog, but vibrate, getting the dog's attention. At its lowest level the vibration feels like a cell phone vibration. I would not recommend buying a collar and using it without professional training. I've heard of many stories where owners have really ruined a dog's temperament because they were using the device incorrectly (i.e. as negative reinforcement).

∙ 14y agoI wouldn't do that. The risk is that the dog associates the shock with the act itself and not where he is at the moment. And holding it in can lead to constipation and all sorts of troubles.
