The prophecies of The Bible are "ended" -- in that they have all been written [recorded in the Bible]. There are no "new prophecies" being written any more.
But, until they are all fulfilled... they stand and are alive and vibrant and shall continue to elicit hope and expectation in the hearts of God's elect.
The Truth of God's Word is to be preached as a witness to the world against Judgment Day: "...this gospel [good news] of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." - Matt.24:14.
Then, as the Bible tells us... it will be ended... done... finished [Rev.21:6].
Until the New Heavens and the New Earth are realized... and the Holy City, New Jerusalem descends from heaven onto the New Earth [Rev.21]... God's plan and His prophecies are not ended.
Once God's plan is done, there will be no more need for the preaching of the Word of God -- "...they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: FOR ALL SHALL KNOW ME, from the least to the greatest." (Heb.8:11)
The Bible warns believers to beware of ignorant and "false interpretations" of the written prophecies... such as the recent ones of a "sudden world-ending" nature. These cause more damage and ill-repute to the name of Jesus Christ among non-believers and unlearned believers, alike, than anything else you might name.
"...if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, He is there; BELIEVE HIM NOT: for false Christs and FALSE PROPHETS SHALL RISE, and shew great signs and wonders, to SEDUCE, if it were possible, even the elect.
"But TAKE YE HEED: behold, I HAVE FORETOLD YOU ALL THINGS." (Mark 13:21-23)
The written prophecies stand. And they tell us that there will be no secret, or mystery, or question in anyone's mind on the face of the earth when Jesus returns.
The entire world will grow dark and gloomy... and the sun-like brilliance of the approach of the "King" toward earth will be impossible for anyone to miss [see the description of how Jesus appears, today: Rev.1:14-16].
"...after the Tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light... and THEN SHALL APPEAR THE SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN IN HEAVEN: and THEN shall ALL THE TRIBES OF THE EARTH MOURN, and THEY SHALL SEE the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Matt.24:29-30)
Compare with Rev.6:12-17: "...the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood... and the kings of the earth, and the great men... hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from THE FACE OF HIM that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: FOR THE GREAT DAY OF HIS WRATH IS COME; and who shall be able to stand?"
These prophecies are written... but the world hasn't witnessed them, or seen them fulfilled, yet. They are "ended," in that they are all written -- but they are far from "done."
As far as I know he believes in the speaking of tongues, but I doubt that he speaks in tongues.

You do not benefit personally from speaking in tongues. The reason that God gives the gift of speaking in tongues is to spread the gospel message to nations and people who don't speak the same language as yourself. So speaking in tongues is for the benefit of the gospel, not for your benefit.
Because they were speaking in tongues.

No, speaking in tongues is a prayer that goes straight to God. All other prays go to Jesus, then to God. Speaking in tongues is caused by the Holy Spirit saying that is caused by demons is the unforgivable sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

The answer to your question needs qualifying: There is significant debate among Christians as to whether the speaking in tongues, or glossalalia, as recorded in the fifth book of the New Testament is the initial indicator (or outward sign) of the baptism of the Holy Spirit or the operation of one of the nine spiritual gifts of the Spirit, or is the gift of tongues as referred to in 1 Corinthians 12:10. Other sects believe that the tongues spoken in the Acts of the Apostles is not a gift at all but the use of a learned foreign language for the purpose of evangelization. The tenets of some Christian sects, i.e. Pentecostals, state that the speaking in tongues recorded in the Acts of the Apostles is the initial sign of the outpouring, or baptism, of the Holy Ghost. They would state that the gift of tongues (in 1 Corinthians 12-14) is not mentioned here because of the lack of interpretation of the tongues, and quantity of participants uttering the tongues (more than two or three). Non-Pentecostal Christian faiths believe that it is not the initial sign of the Holy Spirit, and that it is the gift of tongues being recorded as was stated in 1 Corinthians 12:10. Some religions believe that these instances of speaking in tongues were single, or multiple, cases of people speaking foreign languages where the speakers and hearers of the tongues spoke and understood the languages being spoken for the express purpose of evangelizing non-believers. Nonetheless, speaking in tongues is recorded three times in the book of Acts of the Apostles: In chapter two, verses three through four, chapter ten, verse 46, and chapter 19 verse six.
