No, the questions are answered by people who come to the site, voluntarily. There are no pay agreements between the people who answer the questions and the website. Interest and passion to share knowledge is what is driving wikianswers.

All the contributors on WikiAnswers answer questions voluntarily. No one is paid to answer our questions. Answers.com employees are not paid to answer questions, either. They answer questions as volunteers just as any other contributor would.

Remember that this is a wiki. There is no staff of people being paid to answer questions. There are only users like yourself who ask and occasionally answer questions. Yes, there is a staff of people who maintain and administer the site, but the vast majority of contributors are ordinary people from around the world. As you have experienced, there are disadvantages to wikis, but as you jump in and begin to have fun answering questions as well as asking them, you'll get to have a different experience of the site. By the way, I am NOT one of the paid staff.

Because thousands of questions are asked and it's just a small group of volunteers that answer them all. We're not paid and it's very difficult with some of the questions people ask.
