[Edit] |
Answer
I have a seven year old female red ear slider turtle. Yes, she has laid eggs, usually no more then two a time and is still lays eggs. She crushes the eggs with her wieight and the water needs to be changed. It is called self-inpregnantnation. She looks at her reflection and might belive that she is looking at a mate.

Actually this is not "self impregnation" at all as there is no sperm or stimulation from seeing a reflection. ALL turtle species, as well as 90% of the tortoise species, will lay eggs without the presence of a male. This is simply a natural fact of chelonean life cycle.
Female turtles can also hold sperm for up to 5 years, depending on species. And if mating with a male 5 years before, can still lay fertile eggs at random.
