Lets say you are in a piece with two sharps; now by glancing at the piece, you should look at the root note - if the piece starts on a D and ends on a D and a D major chord is present in the music, it is highly likely that you are in the key of D major.If the piece starts and ends on a B, however, and there are a lot of A♯'s floating around, and a B minor triad shows up, then you are most likely in the key of B minor.I hope that helps!
