NROTC does not require boot camp. You will take Naval Science courses during the school year and participate in one month of duty each summer. The first summer (third class cruise) is a month working with enlisted personnel on a ship. The second summer (second class cruise) is a week with each of the four major branches, Air, Surface, Submarines and USMC. The third summer (first class cruise) you serve as a junior officer on a ship.

Absolutely - every branch of the military, be it Active Duty or Reserves, Air or National Guard, has some form of Basic Training (Boot Camp). That applies to Officers and Enlisted, and prior service Veterans under certain circumstances.

1. Basic Training - BT (Boot) is Enlisted training and indoctrination into the military. About 8 weeks long, it allows for issuance of uniforms and basic supplies, and covers basic military and service branch training and protocols, and the basics of how to be a Sailor, Marine, Airman, Soldier, etc. It also covers International Law, Military Codes, Regulations, and Justice (UCMJ), and for the Navy and Coast Guard, Maritime Law and Regulations. It also allows for the physical, mental, and teamwork training that is essential to any military unit.

During this period, additional processing that isn't covered at entrance processing is accomplished, such as firming up further training dates, immunizations, and other health screenings.

2. Naval Academy (Annapolis) - Both Naval and Marine Corps Officers attend the Naval Academy; in their junior year they decide if they're going to be a Naval or Marine Officer. In addition to college courses and similar elements of BT that are taught at BT for Enlisteds, Officers are schooled heavily in Leadership and Maritime Law, Officer Corps protocols and traditions, etc. Teamwork and Honor are stressed heavily in all endeavors.

3. Officer Candidate School - Unlike Annapolis and the other military academies where Officers learn military basics as well as take college courses to earn a degree, OCS is for those who already have at least a 4 year college degree and are entering the service as an Officer. About 12 weeks long, it's essentially BT for Officers, and covers the non-college elements of what is taught at the Academy.

Air and National Guard, as well as Reserve members are also required to attend some type of BT. For prior service Veterans, depending on the branch and how long they've been out, they may or may not have to go back through if they're joining the Reserves. Typically if you've been out more than a year, you have to go back through.

Those who are going directly into the Guard or Reserves with no prior service still attend BT or OCS as well.

If you are in ROTC in high school and if you want to join the Marine Corps will you get into a higher boot camp and will you go in with stripes?

No, you will be treated to an identical and joyous Boot Camp experience by a regular Marine Drill Instructor who will not care diddly about your cherished memories of High School ROTC. You may have enjoyed the pomp and prestige of having been the Brigade Commander. To your Drill Instructor you are fresh meat and it is his or her job to convert you from a recruit to a Marine. If you took ROTC seriously and learned everything you could and then apply what you already know to the task at hand, you should be able to come out well ahead of your peers. That will give you a strong starting point in the Marine Corps.
