Yes, but many times the picture will be worse if youdon't have the cable companies HD converter. When connected correctly with the HDMI cable, the improvement in the picture and sound will knock you socks off.
There is no difference in the picture quality. You simply need to purchase the cable for the application that you have. If you have a normal Blu-Ray, HDTV and Cable or Satellite HD receiver, a HDMI 1.3 cable is the right type. For 3D televisions, purchase a 1.4 cable.
On most cable company hookups you won't get HD without the HD converter box.
An HDMI cable is used to connect two high definition devices together. They offer a better sound and picture quality than one would have without the cable. They are usually used to connect and HDTV to a home theater system.
If you have a HDTV and it is connected to the PS3 with the Sony A/V cable that came with the PS3 you are not getting HD. Replacing the A/V cable with a HDMI or PS3 component will allow the PS3 to greatly improve the picture quality and Blu-Ray disc movies will look better on the HDTV than any HDTV program ever did. The reason is because the HDTV TV Programs are only 720P and the Blu-Ray is 1080P
Coaxial cable RG-6 is used for satellite TV wiring. If you have a HDTV, you would want to use a HDMI cord from your Dish Network receiver to your television. This will give you a great picture!
Ask your cable company for a HD box, you will never see a HD picture without it.
Connect with HDMI cable whenever possible for everything

Yes you can provided that you have a additional sound system like a stereo receiver for the sound, if you a cable box/satellite receiver of and HDTV Receiver with either a HDMI or DVI port, (you'll need a converter cable for HDMI)
I plugged the HDMI cable into the HDTV and into the PS3. Then I went to the settings for both the HDTV and the PS3 slim and set them for HDMI and sync. When it works right putting a disc into the PS3 will turn on the HDTV and also switch the HDTV over to that HDMI input rather than a cable box or similar item even if it was on the cable box when you last used the HDTV.
Sceptre has better picture quality...
The cable is needed for sound and Picture and must be replaced with A/V Cable. To disconnect simply remove HDMI cable from back of HDTV and PS3
