We just got in front of a Magistrate in Genesee County Michigan. She said that the state now owes us from 2007 when the child dropped out of school. No school, no support is what we were told. We go in front of a judge this May - I'll keep you all posted.
Child support is not based on whether the child is attending school but is based on the living needs of the child and visitation, unless there is a specific court stipulation to that fact.
Yes, if the child is under the legal age of majority for the state, that age is 19.
I think u still have to pay since it is still your child
Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.
Can someone answer this question for me?
If the child is actively pursuing the GED, you may still have to pay since he is still in school. Get legal advice.
Yes, they must still be supported until they reach the legal age of majority.
It certainly depends on your local laws but usually when the child you are paying support for turns the age of majority, does not live at the home anymore or drops out of school the support payments are to stop. I would check as soon as possible with your local laws as well check your age of majority - you may be intitled to receive some money back.
Child support continues as long as the child is still a dependent; this includes school and university, regardless of age.
if under 18, than yes.
Yes. Child support in most states makes you obligated to pay until your child is 18, or graduates from high school. If your child is under 18 and in trade school, you still have to pay.
no
of course you still have to pay child support, that child came from YOUR loins. You are responsible for providing for that child, even if you choose not to be in their life. Maybe if you stuck around they wouldn't have dropped out to begin with. Just saying..
