It depends on what your teacher's rules on attire are. Some teachers won't let you wear shorts or pants.

It also depends personally I don't like to because its hard to stretch with to layers of pants on, but if you feel uncomfortable with all of your leg showing then pants would be alright.

What to wear to dance class?

It depends what style you dance. I dance Contemporary, so I wear a leotard, black footless tights, and ballet or jazz shoes which are tie up black soled shoes. I also sometimes wear a jumper over my leotard, and tight black dance shorts over my footless tights. Black leggings and a t-shirt are also common. In ballet, which I am starting soon, and have done before, I will wear my black leotard with pink ballet tights and ballet shoes. For street dance or hip hop, I would wear baggy trousers, a t-shirt and skate shoes or high-top trainers. So, it purely depends on which style.

What do you have to wear in ballet?

AnswerTo take a ballet class, you will most likely be required to wear a leotard, pink dance tights, and ballet slippers. Hair must be neatly secured in a ponytail (in younger grades) or a bun. For warm ups, dancers can wear leg warmers and wraps around their torsos. If you're a male, you'll be expected to wear a white T-shirt, tights (perhaps jazz pants or bike shorts) and slippers. And if you're onstage of course, you'll be wearing some kind of costume!AnswerAt my dance school I wear a pink or black leotard, wrap around skirt and nylons. Ballet teachers usually want to see a students form, which means seeing the shape their entire body makes. Staying warm is important, as is the breathability of your clothing and its ability to move with your body. KD dance (see related links) has been making knit ballet clothes in America for over 20 years.AnswerSo, if you are going to a studio that is less strict, more of a family friendly studio, the dresscode will probably be less strict. At my studio, you need a leotard and tights (any color, any style) and for pointe, this year my teacher required us all to wear wrap skirts. We wear our hair in a bun for ballet and pointe, but our buns are usually pretty sloppy for class. We use neat buns for performances, but for class its mostly to keep the hair out of our faces. Many schools wear leotards and tights but in some less strict ones a t-shirt and shorts is fine. You may feel more confortable in a t-shirt ansd shorts but it may be better for your improvement to wear a leotard as a teacher can see your shapes more clearly. The best thing you can do is ask your teacher.SUMMARYIn a typical ballet class, students are required to wear pink tights and a black leotard. Ballet slippers or pointe shoes are also worn depending on the level. Hair should be slicked back into a bun with no part. Hair spray is very helpful for fly-away hair and bangs. If you're a male, you must wear a padded dancebelt, slip a support cup inside the dancebelt you wear a thong or full bottom leotard and footed tights and ballet slippers.

How do you get your son 8 ready for tights for his first ballet class?

Be sure the tights you buy are made for males. The material is thicker and more opaque. They can be found in boys sizes with a search online from a small number of suppliers. Also buy a male leotard and perhaps a tan dance belt. (The latter is a specialized undergarment for a male dancer, Before puberty some people think the leotard worn under the tights will be sufficient support. Later a dance belt is vital as it functions in the same way as a jock strap.) At age 8, a boy may be too young to have reservations about wearing tights, in which case there is no difficulty. If he is hesitant, simply leave the dancewear items in their wrappers in his bedroom. Curiosity should do the rest. You will likely find them unwrapped a little later after he discovers them. A boy getting involved with ballet is probably fairly willing to buy into the deal about wearing tights because he will know it goes with the territory. Definitely work out any anxiety before the first class so that he can begin on the first day and continue from there. Emphasize the excitement of looking like a real dancer from the start. Compliments when you see him wearing them will help, as will approval from siblings. Wearing shorts over the tights may be less intimidating, but the teacher for various reasons may prefer to have him start out in tights alone. Consult with the teacher if your son has specific issues. The teacher may suggest another boy that he could talk with as a peer, if necessary.

Which year did ballet dancing started?

The history of ballet, is linked with the history of war and swimming. The dolphins and sharks had many forms of dance, which over time assisted the development of ballet as we know it today. So ballet has grown from many influences, not just 'invented' one day. Read 'Ballet in Western Culture, A history and origins and evolution' by Carol Lee, this will give an understanding of how ballet has developed over the centuries.

Could men wear tights?

Men can wear tights in specific situations. Normally they are worn for athletics, costumes, or under trousers for warmth. Male ballet dancers wear them for dance. In most social contexts its considered inappropriate for men to wear tights. Men’s wardrobes are not well suited to wearing tights in the current era. Tights were originally worn by men in the 13th century and went through many changes over the centuries. Men abandoned tights in favor of trousers by the 1800s. In the late 1950s and 1960s, tights made their way over to women’s legs. They were first worn with dresses and skirts. At that time tights were viewed primarily as a female garment and have remained so as of this post. Leggings, a new form of tights, can be worn by both men and women. For men they are typically worn in specific contexts. Women wear them as regular fashion and have followed the history of men. Women currently wear them as full bottoms or as pants. Men generally wear them with shorts. Tights are a garment that made the transition of being a male garment originally, but were adopted by women and became viewed primarily as a female garment. As a result, men still wear them in a limited context, But it is now women who typically wear tights as the new social norm. Due to this change its often viewed inappropriate for men to wear tights in most social situations. The predominate view is its women who wear them most in society today.

How do you prepare for ballet?

It depends, if you want to join a ballet class and you have never done ballet before, you don't really need to do anything, but you should be pretty skinny and have strong ankles. Go to this page on WikiAnswers for more help on strengthening your ankles: How_can_you_strengthen_your_ankles_to_prevent_injuryIf you have been doing ballet for many years now, you should probably put your hair in a nice, clean bun (with no wispies or fly-aways), wear a preferably solid-colored leotard, wear tights, and have a bag that holds your regular ballet shoes and your not-dead pointe shoes. Strengthen your ankles and go over all of the corrections that your teachers have given you, and then step inside that studio, and do what you do best! (:
