In the final episode of the anime series, Alphonse (after becomeing the philosophers stone) sacrifices himself and the stone in order to resurrect Edward (Ed had been killed by Envy) and is sent to the Gate. Edward awakes to find that Al is gone and performs one last transmutation on himself to pull Al's body and soul from the Gate. Edward is sent beyond the Gate and arrives in our world. When Al came back to his body, he had forgotten his experiences in the armor and was physically the same age as he was when his body was taken away. Heres a list of the Exchanges: Alphonse and the stone for Edward's life. Edward for Alphonse's soul and original body.

Warning: Contains spoilers of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

He doesn't.

In the series of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Alphonse essentially reverses the transmutation Edward performed (giving up his right arm to attach Alphonse's soul to the armour) giving up his soul for Edward to get his right arm back after Ed's automail was destroyed. Edward soon went back to the gate to get his brother, with his body, back and he did. The price that Edward paid was having to live without the ability to perform alchemy ever again. He kept his automail left leg one because he wanted it to remind him of his sin and it would make winry sad if he got rid of it.

In the final episode of the 2003 anime, Ed is killed and waits at The Gate. Al sacrifices himself for Ed, and brings Ed back to life. Al has disappeared and Ed has his missing limbs back. Instead of living with his returned limbs, he sacrifices himself for Al. Then Al is returned to life, and gets his body back, returning to Resembool to be with Winry and Pinako.

Ed, instead of dying, is transported to a parallel universe, winding up in the same city as his father Hohenheim, in Munich, Germany. Yes, the parallel world is OUR world. He has lost the limbs he had for a very short period of time. He is confused as to why he didn't die, and it is believed that the years that he and Al spent together was the sacrifice. This idea is supported in that Al cannot remember those years, and the last thing he remembers is trying to resurrect his mother. The brothers are separated by universes and seek to meet again.

In the manga and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Al sacrifices himself by performing human transmutation so that Edward can have his arm back in order to win the final battle. Once the battle was over, Ed preformed human transmutation again, this time sacrificing his alchemic abilities in order to bring Al back, body, mind and soul.
Yes. Chapter 107 of the manga. I don't want to spoil how though.

What happens to Edward Elric?

Edward Elric's arm was taken away when him and Alphonse Elric, his younger brother, tried to bring their dead mother, Trisha Elric, back to life. In accordance to the Law of Equivalent Exchange Alphonse lost his body and Edward lost his leg. So Edward lost his arm to attach Alphonse's soul to a suit of arm using a blood seal.

When does Alphonse Elric becomes a human?

Edward and Alphonse try human transmutation when Ed is 8 and Al is 7. You can prove me wrong by watching FullMetal Alchemist; Brotherhood Episode 2, "The First Day". it says on the show "The First Day" that Edward is 11 and Alphonse is 10. After they're transmutation rebound Ed recovers in a year and at 12 becomes a state alchemist. 3 years later and its up to date. :D

Does al ever turn into human again?

Alphonse does regain his former body but loses his memory of all prior events - see episode # 51 : "Laws and Promises" .

Is Edward Elric righthanded?

Yes, Alphonse Elric is indeed right-handed. In the episodes with flashbacks to Ed and Al's training on Yock island, Al is seen using a hunting knife and fishing spear in his right hand. Then, even after Al has lost his body, he is seen writing with his right hand (Episode 7 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - so this is also true in the manga - and episode 18 of the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist series). I'm sure there are also more instances where he writes, but there ya go!

Who is Alphonse Elric?

The little brother of the Edward elric in Fullmetal alchemist. Alphonse is 1 year younger than Edwardand it is safe to say the relationship between them is very strong. Ed and Al failed to reserect theier dead mother and as a result Ed looses his leg, and Al looses his entire body, Ed sacrafices his right arm to attatch his brother's sole to a suit of armour. After they comit the taboo they go on a quest to find the legonday pholosopher's stone to restore their bodies. Weather it happens in the end, well you'll just have to watch the anime (it's the best anime ever!)

Does Edward Elric turn himself into a homunculi?

No! He certainly did not turn himself into a homunculi. In the last episode he got transferred to the 'real world' as a result to bring Alphonse's body back from 'the gate'. Unfortunately, he still had his automail arm and leg but he did succeed in bringing Al's body back (even though Al lost his memory about his life in the armour and his body looked exactly the same as the day they tried to bring their mother back)

Who are the anime characters with one leg?

The only anime charecter I know that has one leg is Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. He loses it when he trys to do human transmutation and his brother Alphonse loses his entire body. but Edward gives his arm to bring Alphonses soul back, then he seals Als soul into a body of armor. But he gets metal limbs in place of his arm and leg. they function perfectly.

What the Fullmetal Alchemist movie about'?

Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie: Conquerors of Shamballa takes place after the 51st episode of the first anime. Edward is living in Germany after sacrificing himself to the Gate to bring Alphonse back in his real body. Alphonse is wandering Amestris in search of his older brother. Germany is on the brink of an uprising from the people, by a group that call themselves Nazi's (sound familiar?) and are led by a man they call the Fuhrer. The Thule society, a group that pursues finding paradise, is searching to open a portal to the land Shamballa, a supposedly mythical world whose weapons and technology they will supposedly steal to aid their war. However, the land they are seeking is not in fact the Shamballa they think they know, but the familiar world of Edward Elric. As they proceed to invade, Ed makes his way back to his friends back home just in time to leave them again to stop the invasion. I won't reveal the ending, but I think that's a pretty good summary or teaser.
