There is no essential requirement for any certification for working in this field. but if you want you can apply for CMT (certified medical transcription) exam. However, there are now providers from schools/universities or online for this courses wherein the interested individual can finish it and they can have better credibility through the certification. Getting and finishing courses for medical billing or coding will definitely even help you do your job better.

Does the federal government and most states require a medical assistant to be registered or certified to practice the profession?

Although not required, certification indicates that a medical assistant meets certain standards of knowledge. It may also help to distinguish an experienced or formally trained assistant from an entry-level assistant, which may lead to a higher salary or more employment opportunities. There are various associations-such as the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and Association of Medical Technologists (AMT)-that award certification credentials to medical assistants. The certification process varies by association. It is also possible to become certified in a specialty, such as podiatry, optometry, or ophthalmology.

All healthcare practice management software today, including medical billing and coding software, must be HIPAA compliant medical billing software. Who regulates medical billing?

Answer The American Medical Association, which consists of a voluntary membership of doctors, was consulted by Medicare, but ultimately it was Medicare that decided on the system for medical billing and that was later adopted by private insurance companies. Medicare is run by the federal government to provide health insurance for people over age 65 or disabled people and, like all good government departments, is accompanied by an alphabet soup. It was administered by HCFA - Health Care Finance Administration funded by FICA - Federal Insurance Contribution Act. HCFA has recently been renamed CSM. The bottom line is that the whole system was devised by the government. There are several sets of codes used for determining charges. For example E&M codes are used by doctors running outpatient practices. Every possible diagnosis has a code consisting of five digits. Hospitals use another set of codes and medical procedures such as surgeries are described by their own codes. There are thousands of pages of regulations concerning these codes and billing methods, and you can get a degree in the subject. -DJ Craig chbmdbilling.com
