Steroid free is a good start!
USDA is only the bottom standard. Unless it states on the packaging Steroid free, you can assume that the animal was raised on a feed lot where steroid use is common. The only way to make sure is if you know your farmer or the packaging states steroid free. Laura's beef is steroid free and sold in large grocery store chains. But now you still have to wonder if those animals got adequate access to fresh green fields. Grass-fed, Hormone free, steroid free is great. Add Organic and you got yourself some good meat!
