Does the vacuum advance get constant vacuum or not?

Manifold vacuum usually. There may be some instances where someone reworked a distributor to arrive at a specific timing curve under load using ported vacuum with the vacuum advance, but this would be rare as most people would re-curve their distributor by changing advance weights and springs and would limit the advance built into a distributor so they could use more initial timing without having the total timing go over 36-40 degrees when the engine is revved up and all advance is in.

Vacuum advance hook up on 63 Chevy 283 engine?

There should be a vacuum source on the carb above the throttle body that gives spark ported vacuum. You can connect a tube from this source to the distributor.

Where does the vacuum advance on the distributor go does it go to the carb or somewhere else?

It depends on the year of the car.....but if you are running HEI ignition (74 and later) it will run to the carb. It goes to a ported vacuum signal. You will find a ported vacuum on a fitting that is above the carb base plate. It should have no vacuum when the engine is idling but will have vacuum when you rev the engine.

Where do vacuum lines go on a chevy small block?

You usually need a constant source from the intake manifold to the power brake booster, and a spark-ported source from the carb to the distributor. There could be other emission-related lines as well, depending on the year.

1974 Chevy 350 vacuum line diagram?

You'd need a constant source such as manifold or throttle body vacuum for power brakes, pcv, and disappearing headlights, and a spark-ported source such as one you'd find above the throttle body for the distributor.

Where to connect vacuum line for a vacuum advance?

Depends on the vehicle and how it is set up. Some are connected before the throttle plate (ported vacuum or delayed vacuum) and some are connected after the throttle plate (straight manifold vacuum). More info needed.

Vacuum advance full time or part time vacuum?

Ported vacuum - part time.

How do you change over to HEI distributor from points?

It's a fairly simple procedure. The biggest thing you have to do is run a 10-12 gauge wire to the hot side of the coil in the distributor. The original small wire to your coil isn't heavy enough. Just make sure to wire to something that is hot only when the key is turned on. Other than that, run the vacuum advance of the HEI to a ported vacuum....not the manifold vacuum that the point style uses. Basically any vacuum port on the carb that is above the base plate.

Does transmission modulator get ported or straight vacuum on older Chevy?

Straight-most use the same manifold fitting as the brake booster & not the carb.

How do you hook up vacuum lines on a 84 Chevrolet c20 egr equipped has a edlebrock performer intake manifold and a 600 carburetor?

The brake booster runs to the large port in the rear of the carb or you can tap into one of the intake runners. You may have to T off some vacuum lines as the 600 carb probably won't have enough to run everything. There are fittings that will screw into the large rear port of the carb that have 2, 3, or 4 smaller Ts for running all this. Manifold vacuum will be any port on the carb base plate and intake manifold. You'll need manifold vacuum to the plastic reserve vacuum ball....that's for the HVAC controls. The intake should have a couple of places to install switches into the coolant flow. You will need the ported EGR vacuum switch for your 84 truck. The switch should have two places to hook vacuum up....one you will hook up to manifold vacuum and the other runs to the EGR. There should also be a ported switch to operate the canister purge valve. If your distributor runs a vacuum advance, run that to a ported vacuum port.....anywhere above the base plate of the carb. That should get you started.....as I'm just going by memory.

Were does vacuum advance line hook up on carburetor for a 1970 400 Pontiac gto?

Vacuum advance for 1970 was connected thru a solenoid and shut off until top gear using the transmission switch to allow or deny vacuum to the advance in the factory setup. The debate is split among car guys as to which carb hookup to use ported or manifold attachment on cars without egr and pollution controls. The consensus seems to be that you set your timing and idle with the line plugged off on carb and then try each hook up and see what works best for you. I have a 1973 400 in my GTO and all the pollution gear is removed. I recently fixed my advance and so far have found manifold or below the butterfly to work best for me but, as I stated some swear by the ported or above the butterfly hookup and a pretty good arguement can be made for either way depending on your application street or strip. Most strip diehards disconnect the vac and dial all the advance into the initial and mechanical combined so that at wide open throttle all the advance is present. I recently went to a car show and believe it or not the guys with aftermarket or hotrod parts had evenly split on the subject and neither could be persuaded.

I have 350 that's 40 over with lunati cam and have double hump camel back heads and wanting to know estimated horsepower of this set up thanks Bob?

If what you have is a stock 350 with a stock intake manifold and no other modifications other than the cam, you are probably around 300 horses. To make some changes that will enhance the cams potential, you will need to do some additional things. First, if you can't recurve the distributor yourself, have a shop do it. with that cam I would aim for limiting total mechanical advance to about 20 degrees and I would use springs and weights that will make the distributor hit maximum advance at about 2400-2500 RPM. Then I would set the initial timing at 15-16 degrees. Small block chevies seem to do best with a total of 36 degrees total advance. I would also set the vacuum to the distributor so it is manifold vacuum, not ported vacuum,..That way, there is always vacuum advance and that will greatly enhance low and mid RPM performance at part throttle. The next thing that I would do is add an exhaust system that increases flow. A lot of people don't like headers, but I strongly believe their advance far and away outweighs the hassles that they can cause you. The next thing that I would do is to get a dual plane performance intake manifold, and run a500CFM Edelbrock or Qjet carb on it. With these cahanges, you are probably in the 375-400 horsepower range. Good luck
