There are rules that vary according to the state. You can usually find the rules in relation to this by going to the bar association web page. For example, if you live in Georgia...you can Google 'Georgia Bar Association.
The Bar Associations are not automatically notified when a lawyer is convicted of a crime, though the lawyer is supposed to notify the Bar Association immediately. All attorneys are bound by strict rules/ethics. If you are aware of a lawyer who has been convicted of a crime and may not have reported this to the Bar Association, please contact the Bar Association for your state.
