A queen bee will leave the hive a couple of days after she emerges from the brood cell in order to mate with several (up to 15) drones. She will then return to the hive and will not leave it again unless with a swarm, looking for a new home.

Why is the queen bee important in the hive?

Not really. Although the queen only mates once in her life -- about a week after emerging from the pupal cell -- it will be with anything up to 20 drones. She then stores the sperm received in an organ called the spermetheca, and these are used throughout her egg laying life.

How do you get a queen for your bee farm?

There are companies that will ship you some bees along with a queen. You could go to your local expert bee keeper (In the Utica NY area, John McDonald on Paris Hill Rd, Sauquoit) and ask them for queen bee advice, or you could hope that a swarm will enter you hive.

How the female bee finds the the male bee whom she mates with?

actually, it's the other way around. what happens is quite simple really. the queen bee, who is the only bee that mates and is the mother of the hive, goes on what is called a mating flight and flies out of the hive and begins to fly around. the male bees, which are known as drones, then fly out of their hives and go to where the queen is at and begin to mate with her while flying high up in the air. the queen only needs to mate 5 or 6 times, although she can mate 10 to 12 times. after mating, the male dies. the queen then returns to her hive and stays there, for the most part, for the rest of her life.

How do bees make the queen bee?

When a queen bee dies or leaves with a swarm, several young larvae will be selected as new contenders for the throne and will be fed exclusively on royal jelly, a substance secreted from glands on worker bees' heads. Their cell will be built up into a structure roughly the size and shape of a peanut, and the first new queen to emerge will seek out and kill any other queens in the hive. Then she will go on a mating flight and mate with multiple drones before returning to the hive and beginning a life of egg laying.

What bee lives in the bee hive?

Honey bee workers perform different tasks as they get older. They start by cleaning cells ready for the queen to lay in, then go on to feeding larvae and cleaning the hive. As their wax glands develop they move on to making comb, and storing pollen and nectar and making honey. When their venom glands develop they move on to guarding the hive entrance. At this time they also start making short exploratory flights around the hive to learn the location of the hive. After this, they start foraging for nectar and pollen, which they will do for the rest of their lives.

How do you encourage a queen bee to leave a damaged hive?

You can't if there is brood there. You would have to trap her in a queen cage and put her in the new hive, then transfer as many of the other bees as possible. If the new hive is kept very close to the old site the remaining bees should go to the new hive by themselves within a few hours.

What types of bees are there in a single hive?

There is only one 'type' of bee in a hive; all are the direct descendants of the queen. All are genetically, brothers or sisters, except for the single queen. ( The males are for sexual purposes only, and then somewhere else; that is, they leavethe hive, and don't have a whole lot to do but breed once, if lucky, and then die, otherwise, they just die.) Any other bee who enters the hive will be either killed or wish that she were dead. It's what one could call a matrilineal society. And you really have to be close kin to even get in the door. The entire hive, except for the queen, who is hidden away and the primary contenuied existence of the hive, willl rush to defend against another 'type' of bee entering the hive. All would die guarding the enterance to the hive; with bees ever last one will go to the matresses for the hive. Except the queen of course, who just never really knows what is going on after she got started laying eggs. Bees are social insects; that's totally diffierent from social animals.
