Does air pollution endanger motorcycle drivers more than car drivers?

[Edit]

Answer

Answer:
The quick answer to this question would have to be no... Even though many of the new vehicles have improved hepa filters for their air vents and air conditioners. Hepa are good for large and even many small particles. However they do very little to stop toxic vapors. Such as

  • Carbon Monoxide
  • Nitrogen dioxide
  • Sulphur dioxide
  • Suspended particles including PM-10, particles less than 10 microns in size.
  • Benzene
  • Formaldehyde
  • Polycyclic hydrocarbons

And even if your car has charcoal filters unless you change them ever couple months it does little good.

Some good news about a car that you can't say about a motorcycle is that if you are going into a tunnel or you enter into heavy traffic you can close your windows and trap the clean air in your car for a short time. But if you don't get out of the area quickly then it just as dirty as if you where on a motorcycle.
