Without "space" we would have no place to "exist".
It can also depend on how you look at it and what you believe in, as many people believe that space, the planets and the whole universe were created...
No one knows for sure. There are theories, but absolutely none of them can be proved, and I doubt we will ever find out. The universe is expanding firther into what was here before the big bang....
