Does insurer insure you or does he insure the car?

Answer:
Some coverages protect the car itself and some coverages will follow the driver no matter where they are or whose car they are in. The laws are different in every state and not all states offer the same coverages. To make it even more confusing, the different companies protect you in different ways. To give you some examples; PIP or Personal Injury Protection will follow the insured and their immediate family around no matter whose car they are in. In fact, they don't even need to be in a car; if they are hit by a car while walking or bicycling down the road, they are covered. Another coverage like Comprehensive or Collision, will obviously follow the car, because that is what will pay to repair the vehicle should it become damaged. The best bet it to check with your car insurance company and ask exactly what part of the car insurance you are concerned about.
