Photography stands by the tribute "a picture is worth a thousand words". However, it's still limited to a single sense out of five. We only exercise our visual perception of the world, and only in a two dimensional function without any "natural" depth involved. We do not taste the local food, do not feel the foreign breeze on our lips, nor savor the scent of a new place. We don't even hear the bells of bikes as they race past, the tiny tri wheel cars loved in Europe, the camels used in the Sahara, or even the throaty diesel of the rotary engine that might take us to any spectrum of remote and enviable places. Compare a place with a person: Does your photograph say everything about you, way down to your center?
Additionally, many people may choose not to travel as widely because they feel they can substitute looking at pictures.
