Yes, in the short term but not in the long term. Starving yourself may actually make you put weight ON. If you deprive yourself of food - that your body needs to function properly - your metabolism will suffer. Your metabolism can sometimes control your weight, so suddenly eating properly one day then starving yourself the next will confuse it, and when you decide to start eating again, you will most probably gain unwanted weight. Starving yourself does NOT work, and the best way to lose weight is to exercise, eat meals with varied food groups and eat healthily. I also know it is best to eat little but often, instead of big and rarely.
Yes you can but it's not very healthy. You will lose a lot of weight when you first start, but it can cause a lot of health problems, and yes you will probably gain more weight when you start to eat normally again. But sometimes it can give you motivation to loose weight if you starve just a bit, but not too much. The best way to do it though is do what the writer above said which is to eat healthy and exercise.
Yes, it also helps you get very unhealthy... walking/riding/jogging is the best way to lose weight without having to buy anything or learn anything. when you starve yourself your muscle is used before your fat. having good muscles means you can burn fat just sitting around doing nothing, because they need to burn fuel to be maintained.
Starving yourself is NOT healthy, but WILL show results. Your metabolism is very smart, but very easy to trick. If you really want to lose weight (body fat) eat breakfast and breakfast ONLY. Have some fresh fruit, bowl of cereal (non sugary kinds), or yogurt. Get out and be active (this doesn't mean exercise). A daily walk/jog will do the trick. Yes, people (not very smart) gain TONS of weight when they start eating again. This is because, when you eat again your body is so hungry that you will eat EVERYTHING in sight, and i mean everything. You have to be smart about it, and have good confidence. Slowly work your way back to your regular eating habits. Maybe not all of them. The reason why you would be over weight is because you didn't eat the right foods, and you were not active enough. Start to eat healthier, watch what you eat, and how much you eat. Don't expect to eat chips, ice cream, cookies, cake, etc. and not get fat. It WILL bite you in the butt, and will only leave behind lots and lots of fat! Starving yourself does work, people say it doesn't to protect your health. Just be smart about it.
If you starve yourself you will lose weight, but you will also be harming your body. When depriving your body of the proper nutrients it affects your muscles which includes your heart. Also starving yourself affects your ability to fight off infection. Most importantly when you starve yourself, you are choosing to become anorexic. I know from experience that it screws up your entire body. Protect your body from harm, if you want to lose weight eat healthy and work out (go on walks, find an activity that gets you moving and you enjoy, etc). Starving yourself and becoming anorexic is not the answer, and starving yourself never looks good, you will look sickly if you choose to lose weight that way.

If you starve yourself, you will die. The best way to lose weight is to exercise on a regular basis for at least 45 minutes every day. Brisk walk, bicycle riding, gym workout. **edit***
