Sweeping Membranes / Stretch & Sweep
Sweeping the membranes involves your medical carer gently separating the membranes from the cervix by vaginal exam. This may be a little uncomfortable for some women and on the other hand, some have said they didn't feel much at all. Some spotting or bleeding may occur as a result and some find they have irregular contractions after a sweep. However it has been shown to be quite effective.
A sweep will be performed on women who are at term and have no other complications, e.g. placenta praevia.
Normally they would only induce labour if they have suspected a problem with you or the baby these can be a range of problems. Or they would induce labour if you have had previous babies which have been too big to deliver and caused tearing. Therefore they may induce you early so you have a normal sized baby.
Please go to your doctor/GP. You should not force labour yourself as you can do your baby and yourself alot of harm.
2 weeks
I am 38 weeks and had sweep yesterday at half 3 and still no sign of baby.
They can, they likely won't until 42 weeks, however if mom or baby is having a health problem they may induce early because its safer then continuing the pregnancy
Yes, a woman can go into labour at any time during her pregnancy. When it occurs determines what medical definition it gets. If you go into labour before 37 weeks it is called preterm labour. The infant born will then be called "prem" If labour occurs before 22 - 23 weeks it is called spontaneous abortion.
no... its only going to work around your due date if your baby is ready to be born anyway, they dont recomend it as it will give you the runs and who wants to try deal with labour and the runs... very unlikely to work at your due date let alone that early on. do not try and induce labour at 28 weeks as your baby is not delvoloped and maynot survive!
Normally they induce you if you get to 2 weeks overdue
if the baby is slow to develop or is still in the womb after 42 weeks
At 40 weeks it's not called a miscarriage but stillborn. You will have to give birth as if the baby was alive. They will induce the labor.
rosehip tea along with red rasberry leaf tea don't accually induce labour but can help during labour if drunk for the last few fews of pregnancy.... they do say don't drink before 36 weeks but i think that's just precaution as everyones body is different and some people may have effects from it but very very unlikly
Castor oil is not a recommended dietary supplement for pregnant mothers, since it can induce vomiting and diarrhea. You could wait until your baby is as fully formed as s/he can be in the womb, and wait for your body to listen to the baby's signal that it's time to be born. Natural labour will follow. Human gestation is normal between 37 and 42 weeks.
