It describes a period of three days darkness taking place during the time Christ was in the tomb, and tells the story of the resurrected Christ visiting the Book of Mormon peoples several months after His resurrection.
The later books of Mormon and Moroni, written a few hundred years after the life of Christ, remind us that we should have hope in the power of the resurrection of Christ.

Following His resurrection, the Savior visited the people in the Western hemisphere, and taught the His gospel. This event is recorded in the 3 Nephi 11 in the Book of Mormon.
