Does the co-signer of an auto loan need a driver's license? |
[Edit] |
Answer
No, not necessarily a driver license. A cosigner will be required to show positive ID such as a DL, a DMV-issued non-driver's ID card, a US passport - some kind of official government issued identification, unless the cosigner is personally known to the lender. A cosigner may have to show an original Social Security card for a credit checkup. Proof of income or assets may also be required since the cosigner is liable for the debt just as if the cosigner was the person getting the loan himself.
