In the original book by Mary Shelley, the monster becomes a murderer. His maker, Dr Frankenstein, hunts him down with the intention of killing him, but it is the Dr who gets mortally wounded by the monster. They are at the North Pole at the time, and the story ends with the monster being borne away in the Arctic Sea on an ice raft.

In the 1910 film, the monster vanishes when his maker, Frankenstein, finds true love and gets married!

The protagonist in Frankenstein could be either the titular character Doctor Frankenstein or his creation The Monster. Both are persecuted for their deeds and both are misunderstood by each other and the townspeople.

No! Not at all! He is, in fact, an antihero. This is one who is characterized by a lack of heroic qualities, such as idealism, or courage. They have a tendency to be selfish and have their own moral compass. They put their own desires and ambitions before others. Their determination will turn into an obsession.

This is actually an exam question, where Macbeth is seen as a tragic hero, and Frankenstein is not. One of the main reasons for this is because Victor never realises his misfortune is actually his fault.

Hope this helps :)
