Ford issued a TSB (technical Service Bulletin) calling for all Windstar model years to use Mercon V ATF fluid in the Power Steering system.
Yes, that is a Transmission Fluid, but it happens to be the same product to be used as power-steering fluid.
Pretty convenient if you ask me...
I have always used transmission fluid in my power steering pump with no ill effects.
The Owners Manual will include illustrations and instructions for checking and adding fluids to the power steering system.
