Whilst not a routine service item a number of people report failure around 140k plus miles. I'd suggest changing it at alternate cambelt changes, ie every 120,000 miles
I have it replaced today (20 Feb 13) and paid $625.
Chains generally last the expected life of the engine. If serviced regularly it should last probably 200,000+ miles. HOWEVER - the same cannot be said of the water pump which must be replaced in the same manner as the chain. When you need a water pump replacement have the mechanic that does the job check the chain while he is in there.
no :)
No, it is mounted in the fuel tank and should last the life of the fuel pump. It is replaced when the pump is replaced.
The pump will be ruined and need to be replaced if the car was driven with a dry pump.
On the V6 the belt and water pump must be replaced every 105,000 miles. The 4 cylinder has a chain that requires no maintenance.
You don't change a timing chain unless it breaks...that's the beauty of owning a vehicle with a timing chain. However, you need to make sure to replace your water pump at the recommended interval - in most cars the timing belt and water pump are replaced at the same time so you want to make sure that this service does not slip through the cracks!
The pump will need replaced if it is grinding.
No, it will pump as soon as switched on.
Can someone advise how i fit an elecrtric pump to a vw polo twist?
The air tube that connects the pump to the door that isn't unlocking has a leak somewhere and needs to be replaced.
A Dodge Durango does not have a timing belt. It has timing chain. If the timing cover chain gasket is leaking it is normal to change it while changing the water pump.
