Yes, if it is not cared for well it decays faster. Wood is a carbon compound. All carbon compounds (people and animals included) all decay when we die. I'm sure cutting down a tree counts as killing it, because it can no longer get nutrients to sustain it.
Normally it takes 3-5 months for wood to decay but you have to think of the variables like:
Is it exposed to weather or is it protected?
Has it been preserved or finished in some way?
How big is it dimensionally? Sawdust or wood chips will decay alot faster then a log will :)
Wood oxidizes in much the same way that iron does. If it oxidizes fast enough, it burns.
It breaks apart.

Physical-it is still wood, just in small pieces
It is a physical change.

No, a decaying compost pile is not an example of a physical change. The process of composting results in a different physical appearance or state -- which is physical change -- but it is not reversible and necessitates a change in structure -- which is chemical change.

chemical
It is a physical change, because you're giving the wood a new shape.
It is physical change. There are no chemical reactions taking place when you sand wood.
when wood rots it is a physical change and not a chemical change.
No, it is a physical change.

Decaying of wood is a chemical change since it leads to the formation of a different substance. The process is irreversible.
A physical change because the chemical composition of the wood does not change.
