The ends of the vessels can be cauterized, but the problem comes back if drinking doesn't stop. Long term alcoholic's bodies can have a hard round belly. Looks like a Basketball inside. This is acites. Excess fluid in the abdomen. Another affect on the body is jaundice - yellowing of the white part of the eyes. Also, long abusers suffer from congitive impairments from the excessive build-up of amonia in the brain. Also stools can become greyish in color. Apetite is suppressed, weight loss is common. You can spot an alcoholic by the reddish color of face/neck, distended belly, and / or less-than-normal whiteness in eyes.
